This Remuera project we worked on is a perfect example of what the right stain can do.
The Stain
The homeowner had already chosen a premium deep black penetrating wood stain – and honestly, it was love at first sight for our team too.
This is not your average exterior stain. The deep black finish soaks into the cedar grain rather than sitting on the surface, enhancing the natural timber texture while delivering serious weather protection against Auckland’s wet winters and harsh UV summers.
I’ll be honest — this stain comes at a significantly higher price point than standard exterior stains. But after seeing the result with just the first coat, it’s hard to argue with the outcome.
Just one coat delivered a finish that was deep, rich black and incredibly vivid, unlike anything we’ve seen from regular stains. And unlike some products that can look patchy in certain areas, this one went on remarkably evenly across the entire surface. Every board, every grain – consistently beautiful.
For homeowners where budget is not the main concern and quality is everything – this is absolutely a product worth trying.

The Project
The brief was straightforward — apply the first coat to the full exterior cedar cladding of this beautiful two-storey Remuera property.
What we completed: 1 coat for all the cedar cladding and fascia.
A Note on This Stain
One important thing worth knowing about this particular product — the second coat can only be applied after a minimum of two weeks, allowing the first coat to fully penetrate and cure deep into the timber.
Because of this, the homeowner has booked us back next summer for the second coat — which will deepen the colour further and lock in the full protection of the finish.
